Faculty development is a continuous process aimed at further enriching the skill-sets and competencies of the faculty for enhanced performance in their teaching, research, training and consulting. In consonance with this approach, JKLU has launched a series of innovative Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs). FDPs are facilitated by our Vice-Chancellor Prof R.L. Raina. Dr. Raina is a frequent consultant for a wide range of clients and develops training programmes on ‘Effective Communication’ for individuals as well as organizations in both public and private sector as well as in academics. His other training areas include ‘Leadership Communication’, ‘Corporate Communication’, ‘Media Relations’ and ‘Scholarly Writing’.
16 faculties of JKLU participated in the FDP focused on “Art and Science of Inspirational Teaching” on Jan 15-16, 2018 at MDC, JKLU. Current FDP included two core elements:
Art of inspirational teaching
1. Preparing for class
2. Teaching with confidence
3. Engaging students
4. Handling difficult behaviors
5. Active listening and non-verbal communication
6. Engaging beyond the class
7. Leveraging Technology
Leadership for faculty
1. The art and science of effective communication
2. Interpersonal and group communication skills
3. Teaching styles
4. Personal communication style
The programme involved various overnight case studies and outdoor activities, which enhanced the peer to peer learning and took the participants back to the classroom experiences.
The event was completed with the felicitation of the participating faculty members and a vote of thanks from Prof Raina. The programme received a very positive feedback, as a follow-up, next session on scholarly writing is proposed in the month of March.
