The LSEF-UMASS Scholarship program is for driven, passionate and meritorious students who will not only be the best representatives from India, but will also set their own benchmark at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Launched in 2019, the scholarship is available to selected students for pursuing post-graduate education in three master’s degree programs- M.S in Data Analytics and Computational Social Science, M.S. in Applied Economics and Master’s in Public Policy from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The students will undergo two years of study in this program where the first year will be at JK Lakshmipat University and the second year at UMass Amherst. Each scholarship worth Rs. 20 lakhs, amounts to 50% of the total academic fees for two years. This scholarship will be disbursed semester wise subject to satisfactory performance.

Lakshmipat Singhania Education Foundation (LSEF)

Led by its architect, the Late Lala Lakshmipat Singhania (1910-1976) who was inspired and driven to create India’s intellectual capital, JK Organisation has been at the forefront of philanthropic initiatives in education and healthcare. Lakshmipat Singhania Education Foundation is extending this legacy for the last 45 years and presently runs  a number of schools and higher education institutions across the country.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

M.S. in Data Analytics and Computational Social Science

The M.S in Data Analytics is a master’s program designed for students focused on pursuing or advancing careers that rely heavily on framing, developing, and presenting data for evidence-based decision-making and communication or regularly interacting with computer scientists and other technical experts in fields such as political analysis, marketing analysis, financial analysis, product or project management, demographic analysis, social media analysis, strategic communication, and reputation management.

Graduates of this program will have developed skills relating to data driven decision-making, processing and analysing large datasets, ethical data management, evaluative data interpretation, and clear communication of data results. Possible career trajectories include analyst and consulting positions in public policy, market research, public relations, corporate communications, population studies, and survey research. The U.S. STEM OPT system will allow students to work up to 36 months post program completion.

 

M.S. in Applied Economics

The M.S. in Applied Economics is a master’s program that provides state-of-the-art training in empirical microeconomics and applied econometrics. It allows concentration in fields like Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, Empirical Industrial Organization, and Experimental and Behavioural Economics.

Graduates of this program will have the ability to analyse how consumers and firms make choices, how markets behave, and what data are needed to inform decisions. It will prepare students for careers in analysis and decision making for management, marketing, resource-based industries and economic consulting. The U.S. STEM OPT system will allow students to work for up to 36 months post program completion.

 

Master’s of Public Policy

 The Master’s of Public Policy degree brings together political science, economics, statistics, management, and other social science disciplines enabling students to shape policies and programs around the globe. Students gain the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to become leaders in the non-profit, public, or private sector while creating meaningful social change.

Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers as policy, research, program or budget analysts in federal, state or local government or in non-profit or private organisations. They can also work as program managers, city or town administrators, or as directors of or managers in non-profit organisations. The U.S. Federal Government will allow regular post completion OPT (12 months) to the students.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Candidates who have completed (or will complete before July 2019) minimum of three years of undergraduate (bachelor) degree in any discipline from an accredited institution or University in India is eligible to apply.

  • Applicants need to be Indian citizens

  • Applicants should have studied Mathematics as a subject upto a minimum of 12th grade or equivalent

  • Applicants should have secured a minimum of 75% marks in their Undergraduate degree, 12th and 10th grades (or equivalent)

  • Only selected students will need to successfully clear TOEFL/ IELTS with minimum acceptable scores (80 for TOEFL and 6.5 for ILETS) and take GRE – General test for MS (Applied Economics) and MS (Data Analytics) programmes before end of 1st year.
