Research Overview

The Electronics and Communication Engineering program provides strong fundamental concepts in Electronic Devices, Circuits, Communication and Control Systems as core foundational courses. In addition, students may choose 12 credits as Departmental Electives where they may gain specialization in the following concentrations:

1. Embedded Systems and IoT: 

The present needs of industry are automation and remote operations which can be achieved using embedded systems and IoT technologies.  Many real time applications require processors with fast computational capacity and these systems deploy edge or cloud services. The courses chosen in this concentration will enable students to design real time IoT systems for various applications like smart cities, smart factory, smart healthcare, smart supply chain management, smart agriculture, smart water management etc.

  • Embedded Real Time Operating Systems
  • IoT System Design
  • Cloud Architectures and Deployment Models
  • Security in IoT Systems
  • Industrial IoT
  • Wireless Sensor Networks

2. Communication & Signal Processing

Signal Processing is part art, part science. The digital world involves data from sensors which needs to be processed in suitable form for being used further. Some of these sensors are used for applications like Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Sonar, Radar, Mobile services etc. The courses in this concentration will enable students to design systems that can process audio, video, sensor data and develop real world applications for communication systems, medical diagnostics equipment, seismology, extraterrestrial communication etc. 

The courses offered in this concentration are:

  • Advanced Communication Systems
  • Information Theory and Coding 
  • Cryptography and Cybersecurity 
  • Signal processing using Machine Learning
  • Wireless communication and networks
  • Antenna design

3. Digital Systems

Digital World is the demand of time. Digital technology has proven higher efficacies and ease of processing and communicating. The concentration in digital systems will enable students to design digital systems using various design models and implement these for various applications in space communication, consumer electronics, medical devices, process control and automation industry.
