Industry Orientation - Practice Schools

Industrial Orientation

It is essential for students to be able to apply their classroom learning to the professional world of work. To better facilitate this infusion, IET offers two ‘credit based structured courses’ through their Practice Schools 1 and 2 (PS-I and PS-II). These schools are also beneficial in creating an industry- academia interface and filling the gap between academics and industries.

Practice School-1

PS-I is a 4-6 week programme undertaken during the summer term, after completing 4 semesters in the course. The objective of this programme is to expose the students to the corporate world in various functions and industries. They are expected to learn from observation and apply their classroom learning to solve real world problems and understand the various facets of engineering operations such as inventory, data analysis, product management, and so on.

Practice School – 2

PS-II is a one-semester long programme in the Final year. The objectives of this programme are to work on more complex, live projects for various organisations across industries. The students are expected to use their learning from PS-I to complete their PS-II projects successfully.

Computer Science Engineering

This programme has been designed with an objective to create well-qualified engineers who can take up the challenges in the area of Computer Science Engineering (CSE). Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are key areas of focus for the department. The university has its own private cloud, availability of hands on learning through industry leading Cisco Network Academy and a Centre of Excellence in Data Analytics established in association with IBM and led by reputed faculty.

Students can specialise in:

Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Information Security, Mobile Computing and Enterprise IT.

Mechanical Engineering

This department boasts of the finest Automobile labs in the country with dynamic models and engine testing setups equipped with variable compression ration testbeds. Established in collaboration with the industry, the Polymer testing lab is one of the few in academic institutions in the country and the only one in Rajasthan. Robotics and Automation are other key areas of focus for the department.

Civil Engineering

This programme is aimed at meeting the infrastructural requirements in the areas, such as Construction, Transportation, Hydropower and Environmental Engineering. The department has state-of- the-art laboratories and is actively engaged in strategic research on satellite based remote sensing of resources with a research grant from ISRO. The department’s focus includes Sustainability and Smart City Engineering, a key area of growth.

These departments offer students a range of electives acrossPower Systems, Embedded Systems and Communication Engineering. The department has established facilities for smart grid testing and offers interdisciplinary electives in areas such as Project Management, Enterprise Security and Internet of Things (IoT). It has collaborated with Red Hat and also established a Centre of Excellence in collaboration with Texas Instruments.
